What is Physiotherapy and how could it help?

Physiotherapists are experts in the anatomy and movement of the muscles, joints, nerves and connective tissues, it is an evidenced based clinical therapy allied to traditional medical care. We work with you to address short and long term challenges and goals, and to prevent recurring or acute episodes of, usually painful or restrictive conditions. We can help you diagnose a problem and manage it so as it no longer impacts on your lifestyle. If you are unsure if physiotherapy may be of benefit to you please do call me on 07843277552 so as we can discuss who may be best placed to assist your care.

Physiotherapy can take various forms and your treatment may include some or all of these elements:

  • Specific exercises to develop and maintain strength or flexibility

  • Acupuncture for pain relief

  • Manual assisted stretching and mobilisation of your muscles

  • Learning to recognise and manage postures that contribute to a problem

  • Manually manipulating joints

  • Strengthening your core muscles using a Pilates approach

  • Deep tissue and sports massage techniques

  • Biomechanical assessment of foot position and use of orthotics

  • Working closely with personal trainers and other professionals in managing your sporting achievements

I graduated from Nottingham University with a Bachelor of Science with Honours. I have practiced as a physiotherapist in a variety of senior clinical roles for over 10 years. During which time I have worked alongside Orthopaedic Consultants, Rheumatologists, Pain specialists, Neurosurgeons and GP’s. I am able to accept referrals from most insurance providers, please do contact me to discuss your specific coverage if required.

I have a particular interest in the rehabilitation of knee conditions, and I enjoy exploring aspects of persistent and acute low back pain so as to resolve this distressing condition. As a local resident, I have had excellent results treating our tennis players and our budding new talents, including our young ballboys and girls at the AELTC. I also have experience with sporting attainment at all levels, including representatives of GB rowing crews, semi professional footballers and top flight martial artists, however my own participation has been somewhat limited as I am predominantly now a local mum of three young boys. This makes me all too aware of the pre and postnatal challenges that we undergo whilst raising children. I have skills in the treatment of pelvic girdle pain, diastasis rectii and other common conditions affecting womens’ health. I am well known locally for treating these sensitively but also with good humour and many of my clients go on to attend a circuit training class held in the personal training studio for supervised exercises to assist in this rehabilitation.

Being a physiotherapist offers a unique opportunity for me to work together with my clients in reducing pain and achieving goals, whether these are sporting ambitions or related to more modest tasks, we become part of a team and I especially enjoy this aspect of my work.
